The Romulan Supernova of Star Trek was first created as a plot point for the 2009 Star Trek films, but carried over into the prime continuity of the shows. Comics, Games and books took the idea and used it, eventually with even Star Trek Picard picking up the plot thread and moving forwards with it as backdrop to that series. However we never really learned what happened for sure, only the aftermath. But now Star Trek Defiant comes along, and combined with several other hints from Picard era novels, we have a bigger picture. Let's explore.
